What I(an) wore Wednesday

Hello again,
If you wanna know where the Idea for this came from, check here.

Today it is rather hot, so I choose some lighter clothes:

I just love those pants, they have whales on them and some blow water :-)

Shirt is H&M and I can't remember where the pants came from...no spiderman socks today...to warm...

This made me laugh, he managed to get a hold of the phone, and he knows he isn't allowed to play with it :-)

The remote...just as 'forbidden' as the phone....I just don't know how much baby slobber they can handle ;-)

So what did your little munchkins get to wear this week? Just link them up in the comments below.

Carrot Burgers with Thai dip

You need:
500gr /1 lbs. of carrots, grated. Add
1 egg, beaten and
2 tbsp flour and
salt and
3 tbsp sesame seeds. Mix well and let rest for at least 10 minutes.

For the Thai dip take:
half a pack of yoghurt and
half a pack of either creme fraƮche or sour cream. Mix well and add
2 tbsp of Thai seasoning paste and mix.

Now heat pan with about
3 tbsp of sesame oil and fry your burgers until cross from both sides. Be careful when turning them, they are a little fragile.

We served these with a side salad and some garlic bread.

Enjoy!

Little Paper Basket

You, too probably have lots of paper for recycling. Far more than you could ever use to light your fire at night...here is a way to use some of it!

Take a magazine or newspaper and tear the single pages out. Now fold them in half, and half it again and again, until you have slim stripes as pictured below.

Now bend them and glue them in a form you would like your base of the basket to be.

Now make the sides, by only gluing the bottom half of your stripe to your previous layer. So the upper half sticks out. And keep going until your second last round.

For me it worked best to turn the stripes this way (above).

Once you have reached your second last round, half one of your stripes. Out of these you can now form the handles of your basket. And glue them as shown below.

For the last round stay kind of level with our round before, so you don't have an end sticking out or standing over, I also glued every layer of the last stripes while folding them so they would make a sturdy rim.

Now if you want too, you can colour the whole thing. I used green and red, because these are the colours in my kitchen. I made this basket for a few toys that I keep in the kitchen to keep the little man out of mischief while I cook.

What Ian wore Wednesday

...Well this week actually, what he was wearing tuesday..cause tomorrow is a busy day for us on the road.

So here we are for the second time. Wanna know about the last time and how it all came together? Klick here.

(and at the corner of the carpet you can see why we love our cat so much...)

Ians wearing a Flogging Molly Band Shirt (Present from Impact Mailorder), and a pair of jeans (from a second hand market) and of course one pair of his many Spiderman Socks :-)

It was rather difficult to get a half way usable shot of the wee man today. Since he can stand he acts like a bouncy rubber ball. If he hears any kind of melody he is trying to dance, soooo freaking sweeeeet..

So what did your adorable little munchkins wear this week? Just link them up!!

Pineapple-Curry-Soup (vegan)

Oh THIS was soooo Yummy! I cooked this just before we left for our trip, I was so sure I had taken a picture, but I can't find one :-( But just because you cant see what it will look like, should not stop you from trying this! I know I am repeating myself but OMG this was just too yummy.

You remove the seeds of
half a red chilli and chop it really small. Add it and
one well heaped tbsp lemongrass paste into a frying pan together with
1 level tbsp Ginger (dried or fresh, in the case of the latter, of course, peeled and chopped) and
1 can of roughly 200 gr pineapple, chopped. Fry it at high heat in
3 tbsp of olive oil for a couple of minutes.
Then add previously soaked soy medallions. I soaked 10 of them, for the two of us, in a mix of vegetable stock with cayenne pepper, coriander, turmeric for about 10 minutes. you have to drain your medallions before you add them, do not add the stock mix to your soup!
Then I let it all simmer for about 15 minutes on low heat. Add
400 ml coconut milk and
250 ml boiling water
1 heaped tbsp Curry
and let it cook for another 5 minutes. Take out the medallions and
then use the blender until you have a homogen soup.
Add 20 gr of brown sugar and a little
salt and pepper and your medallions. Enjoy!

What I(AN) wore Wednesday...

A while back I had a discussion in the comments of a blog with other mums  about how difficult it is to find outfits for Babies/Kids , that are not cutsie-cute or straight down boring. In my case I can only speak for boy outfits. Here you seem to be stuck with earthy colours and blue and "Bob the Builder" or truck prints. And when in shops I can see there is a lot of pink and purple for girls with "Hello Kitty". Shortly after, I came across Lindsey's lovely blog and her What-I-wore Wednesday 's-posts (Definitely something you should check out) the Idea formed in my head that there should be a similar post for kids!

Today was actually the first day I honestly understood where all the participating women come from. Normally I get dressed in the mornings (no brain activity involved as prior coffee)...jeans, top, runners...and bring my coffee-to-go and take the dog out for a one hour walk, before my husband has to leave for work. As I nearly always run into other dog owners, I somehow try not to look too run-down, but I never realised that I was doing it?! Does that make sense?

But for the past two days I didn't have my dog with me as he is at my mums. So here I suddenly find my self wearing baggy sweat pants (I wouldn't wanted to be seen dead in!!) and one of hubbies softest t-shirts! So maybe -  if I manage to overcome my fear of having photos taken of myself, and poses more than 5 tops that actually fit me - I will join the original WIWW-Club, until then I will let our son participate , and also want to encourage all mums out there to join me, link up your own kids to this post. I am sure your kids manage to either make pink or blue look really pretty and unique or you have found some other colours (and prints) for them to wear. Maybe you even have your own design? I would love to see them all! So either link to your own blog to join me in this or just link to a photo. I promise I will look at all of them and leave a comment and I am sure so will other readers!

So here we go for today:

poor boy is teething...3 teeth coming at the same time! so forgive the half smile..the t-shirt is H&M, the pants (don't ask me what colour they are..neither purple nor blue, but stuck somewhere in between) a present from granny, and the socks are SPIDERMAN, I just had to buy the pack of four!
To keep the white whitish, a bib for lunch...
...but he hates bibs... (the bib was a present too, from one of his godmothers)
the t shirt also has a cookie-monster on the back...the reason I couldn't resist buying it. Blanket is IKEA and also a present, from his other godmother. I just realised, today he only wears things bought in shops, normally I get most his stuff second-hand.

Would love if you linked up your lovelies sometime this week.

yeah we are back home

So here we are again...back home! And here as promised a report on travelling long distance with a baby. Travelling with a baby is a lot easier, than people make you believe. For some reason quite a number of people told us afterwards or some even before travelling, that we are crazy to do this. But later they admitted that it actually was the perfect time for travelling.

We flew from Europe via Singapore to Sydney with Singapore Airlines. An Airline I can absolutely recommend when travelling with kids. The stewardesses and stewards were amazing with our little boy. He got so pampered by them! If you ask for it, they even have baby food on the plane. If your Baby is smaller than 74cm and lighter than 14 kg, they will provide a Bassinet that is attached to the front row walls of each compartment, this comes in very handy, as you don't have to have your baby on your lap at all times. The Bassinet needs to be booked when you book your flight. The reason why we booked our flight through the travel agency, but there is supposedly a way of doing it online, too.

And the Australians are a lot more child friendly then I ever experienced the Irish to be. And this is a statement that makes me very sad, and I never thought I would be saying this! So if you travel and want to see the world while your kids are little...Australia should definitely be on your list of locations.

We travelled along the east coast of Australia. Travelling in a motor home, made the journey through Australia for our son very easy. He is very sensitive to smells where he is supposed to sleep. So this way he had the same bed in the same "room" every night. And had no problem to settle in it at night. We brought our baby phone with us. That way we could leave the camper in the evenings, and meet up with other travellers in the BBQ Area. This actually gave us more freedom than we would have had at home.

For this road trip we quiet easily managed to arrange out daily travel times during our sons  nap times. So yes that limited us to about 3 hours driving per day, but if you think about it, I don't think we would have done much more anyway, because there is always something worth seeing on the way, often enough even in less than  3 hours distance from the prior location.

Ok on the other hand we didn't do a lot of things that were on our list 5 years ago, when we originally planned this trip. On that list was a camel ride through the dessert, a ballon trip over Uluru, diving in the corals...there are things you just can't do when you have a baby on board. And you have to decide what is more important to you and your partner. Not seeing the country at all, because everybody says it is a deadly country with the most venomous animals of world (well the Australians have been raising kids in their country and strangely the people of Autralia haven't been extinct by those animals?!?) so that didn't put us off. Or not travelling because maybe you won't be able to do some of the things that make your dream vacation? Or leave your baba home with the grandparents and not see it grow and learn new things...we could have missed his first time standing free...his first time clapping hands...not seeing his beautiful smile, listening to his very infectious belly laugh, just to go travel the world...?? All these things not an option for us. Yes it was a very different travel from what we were used too, less party...but I also believe we actually got to know the Australians, otherwise we might have seen more of Australia (meaning the touristy places), but I doubt we would have gotten talking to Australians like we did.
So my verdict of exploring the world with a little toddler: GO! TRAVEL! Don't be held back by fears! Bad things can happen at home, too! But life is just to short to be bored at home!

I am sorry there are no pictures..yet...promise they will follow :-)
